Ms. Ross Brings The “Sunshine” This Summer

Are you ready for the summer of Diana Ross?

On the heels of her long-awaited studio album Thank You, Diana Ross fans are getting another major treat this summer: a new song!

Producer Jack Antonoff has announced that his upcoming soundtrack to the film Minions: The Rise of Gru will feature various artists covering his favorite songs from the 1970s, along with an original title called “Turn Up The Sunshine” written with Sam Dew, Patrik Berger and Kevin Parker and performed by….DIANA ROSS AND TAME IMPALA! According to his Instagram post, songs will begin being released May 20th, with the full soundtrack following on July 1st.

A short clip of the song accompanies Antonoff’s Instagram post (which is linked below), and from the snippet we hear, the song is a fun, funky throwback featuring Ms. Ross singing…and rapping!

This song has real, solid hit potential — especially if it’s prominently featured in advertisements for the film. And finally, we have some answers about that rumored Diana Ross/Tame Impala collaboration!!

  4. Clarence High says:

What a nice surprise! I like the snippet!

  5. BoblyP says:

Wow! The short taster on Instagram sounds great!!

  6. Mic says:

The soundtrack is on Decca Records….interesting.

    • Clarence High says:

      I noticed that too Mic!

    • William Sturman says:

That doesn’t give me a lot of confidence – I don’t think they did a very good job marketing Thank You in the U.S. None of the exceptional singles charted on the U.S. dance charts? How could that be?!

      • Terrell says:

The reason none the the ‘Thank You’ singles made the U.S. Billboard Dance Charts is because that chart has been suspended since 2020 due to the covid pandemic. “love Hangover” is still listed at the #1 song on the Billboard Dance Chart.

  7. Mic says:

This is such a great moment for Diana Ross. At 78 she is still making music and headlining this movie soundtrack filled with popular young artist. I want to know what 78 yr old singer is burning up the charts? There ain’t any. The “Thank You” cd was a success for me and many other fans around the world and I’m sure it sold very well…everywhere. Every once and a while there’s someone who throws cold water on her endeavors which is always strange to me. Many of her contemporaries like Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle don’t have a record deal because the music industry has changed they won’t fund music by a legacy artist. But I love how Diana Ross just keeps it moving in a positive direction. I think the best advice I can give disappointed fans is: It’s not Diana’s job to make them happy. Satisfaction, happiness, contentment is their sole responsibility. I can’t want till May 20th and the release of her new single.

  8. William Sturman says:

Hi Mic, you misunderstood my comments. Few are bigger Diana Ross fans than me and I’m beyond excited for the new Minions single! That being said, I don’t think it is unreasonable to hope for the best commercial success for Thank You and this single. I think Thank You, If the World Just Danced and I Still Believe in Love are among her best works. She was coming off #1 dance hits in 2018, 2019 and 2020 (at age 74, 75 and 76). The Thank You singles should have been #1 hits there as well. Decca did a good job in the UK – the album hit #7 there but crickets in the US. I’m beyond thankful for these new releases – what a gift but I’m greedy – I want more!! 🙂

    • Davidh says:

      I totally agree with you.
How did Diana have 4 #1 dance hits in a row but none of her new songs charted.
      Strange.
I will say Diana wasn’t visible for these but still…..

  9. Bob D says:

Just heard Diana and Tale Impala’s new single on Zoe Balls national BBC radio 2 show. It is like a burst of energy, exploding from the radio. She called it the song of the summer..It certainly deserves to be.

    • Mic says:

I heard it on YouTube and Spotify. I love it…its funky and dreamy at the same time…its gotten good feedback in Rolling Stone and Billboard….its really good

      • Bob D says:

I agree it is wonderful and shows off her vocals superbly. It is also very infectious. Nice the reviews are so positive!

      • Terrell says:

“Turn Up The Sunshine” has peaked at #19 on U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary Singles Chart with a total of 12 weeks on that chart!!!…another hit song under Diana’s belt.

  10. Bob D says:

And it’s the BBC radio (UK) record of the week next week. So multiple plays. It’s an absolute gem that really shines amongst the other records good as they may be. It is an exceptional piece of work!

  11. Davidh says:

Love this song, love her vocals,
Really not since the Boss and Diana has she dug in like this.
    Praying this will hit big
