Let’s all say THANK YOU to the Birthday Girl!

It’s Diana’s birthday — and since she just gave us the album of her career, let’s give something back to help make it a special day for our diva.

Join me in streaming Thank You over and over again today — not playing the physical album or CD, but STREAMING it from a streaming service. As we know, streams are what counts in today’s musical landscape. The more streams the album gets, the better it performs.

Here’s a list of services from which to choose (including Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, Amazon, etc.): https://dianaross.lnk.to/thankyoualbum

Congralations Paul and also Congratulations on YOUR television success!!! Very proud! BUT let’s not call THANK YOU the album of her career! All three Ashford & Simpson LPS, The Boss and diana are all leaps and bounds better than the latest. The BIGGEST problem is that Miss Ross is NOT a producer. I think the new album suffers sound wise because she did not give the reigns over to someone else. Love the effort and the songs – but the SOUND could’ve been crisper – I think ultimately that has kept it from being the success that well all wanted!

Oh, we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. In my opinion, THANK YOU is the most authentic artistic statement ever released by Ms. Ross. I agree that THE BOSS and DIANA are masterpieces, but they are Diana Ross filtered through the lens of her producers. THANK YOU is a different work entirely — it is her vision alone, delivered in her own words. This album is clearly a love letter to her fans and, to me, a much more intimate project than we’ve ever gotten from the singer. That’s why I call it the album of her career. It is truly a gift. As for its commercial success, I don’t think it has anything to do with quality — it’s about (unfortunately) her age and not having the long-running support of a label to push it.

You’re certainly right about no label OR media support! If the world just danced could’ve been a top ten single!

Happy Birthday to Diana Ross. Love your new song and album, “Thank You”. My favorite song is the “The Answer’s Only Love”. Great Album.
    Thank you, Miss Ross.

Thank you Paul for your response. I agree. Although this is clearly a love letter from Miss Ross and she did collaborate with talented writers and producers. This is my favorite album by Diana Ross because I love every track. I play it regularly and there is not a false move. The production work is excellent. It is disappointing that this project didn’t get the attention it deserved in the U.S. This acknowledged I am grateful to have new music from my favorite vocalist since 1964. Like many fans it is indeed an endless love.

For a legacy artist such as Diana Ross the Thank You cd garnered a lot of press in the US. It was on every list as the project to look forward to and every major critic critiqued it. Sometimes I get the feeling that her fans talk about her as if she’s always “losing.” I’m not sure what people expect. It’s unfair to compare her work and career at 78 to her work and career 50 yrs ago. I will be 71 this year and don’t even recognized myself 50 yrs ago nor am I supposed to. The Thank You cd did not fail. I am certain that all her fans around the globe purchased it as I did and appreciate it as a love letter from a great artist and human being.

    • Paul says:

I agree — I think she got great publicity given she didn’t appear on any TV programs, etc. to talk about the project. She delivered the album exactly as she wanted to, which she more than deserves at this point in her life and career. And it’s an album that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of her work. We are so lucky to have been given this gift.
